Art show opening this weekend at the Tri-County Arts Council @artscouncil, in Olean NY. My two landscape oil paintings are shown here as displayed in the show. Even in frigid weather they had a great turnout. #letchworthstatepark #landscapeoilpainting
Just shipped out this commission painting to Clair, my first of the Lower Falls, in Letchworth St Park NY. 14x18”, oil on canvas. I don’t post all the commissions I’m working on but when it’s a first I like to. Hope you like it too; “art connects us”. #letchworthstatepark #landscapeoilpainting
Inspiration Point. My first painting at this location - in progress. Love the name because frankly the whole park is inspiration for artists and anyone for that matter. 18” x 24” oil on canvas.
Three versions of the same scene. For people interested in the process of making art, these three paintings indicate a new development in my “style” or my brand. Thanks for following me and as I say “art connects us”.
Today met Sam (on left from New York) and Shubham ( from Buffalo) while painting at a favorite spot the Upper Falls. The painting on the easel was started today and did sell today - it was a little more completed than shown in this photo. I met so many nice people with the same result. I talk 80% and paint 20%. But it shows that art does connect us.
This week’s plein air painting at Letchworth State Park at two overlooks- Humphrey and Archery Field and the nice people who posed for a photo. The first shows Olav and Johan from the Netherlands, then Maik and Lara from Germany, then Sabita and Dinesh from Nepal and finally AJ from Grand Rapids, Michigan. A great variety of people from all over the world frequent this park, which is why I love it so much. And also I was hoping to show the scale of these paintings by having people stand next to them. The paintings are very large but I am getting to like that size a lot. It feels right to make landscape paintings big and bold like the scenery itself
This photo taken by my friend Josh. In between rainstorms managed to work on a painting. Have some much larger versions of this painted there I’ll post soon.
Fellow artist Bailey (3rd grade) whom I just met her and her mom helped me with some finishing touches on the river below. She was great and is now officially an oil painter !
Car all packed for a day to Letchworth St Park hopefully will be sunny and not to windy. Have a lot of new equipment to test out. I’m bringing paintings started there to check highlights, tone etc. Also like just getting everything together - always seem to forget something. Ha.
I made a new palette I’ll be trying out. Also - Prints of the Upper Falls are now available. Message me if you’re interested.
This “Middle Falls”painting of Letchworth St Park NY, is going to the home of Marie and Dennis (shown picking up today). The overlook behind Dennis is the area I painted at today (43 degrees out and sunny) until the shade moved over and it felt like 35 out. By the way, I don’t always post the paintings that people get. **Now thoughts and goals: (since this is the end of my third year Plein air painting) - I don’t paint for the approval of artists, galleries , or art critics. First, I paint because I like it and I want to see how far or how “good” I can get; pushing the boundaries and trying new techniques. Also, I enjoy giving painting tips and lessons especially to young people. I love putting the brush in their hand to paint directly on my painting, hopefully starting a lifelong endeavor. Finally the act of painting in public areas: My goal is to “spread art” by making the artist and the artwork so accessible, and discussing art and painting with people, as they go about their day. I’m amazed at how many people are interested in this.
I just met Allie (not sure of her name spelling) and she helped me by painting on this fall painting of Upper Falls Letchworth St Park NY. I love to have young people try the experience of oil painting, (right on my painting) with the hope that it’s starts a lifelong interest and fun of painting. I always try to give tips and teach skills with anyone who stops to talk and has questions. I think oils can intimidate people, but I try to suggest that if they can push past their hesitation, the benefits of oils far outweigh other mediums. Today was crazy - the busiest day I’ve ever seen there. I waited an hour to get into the park ! Once in, there were so many people I hardly had time to paint. You’ve heard me say before , I usually talk 80% and paint 20%. Today I think was 95%- 5% , ha ha.
These ladies from Nepal stopped to talk with me about my oil painting at Letchworth St Park NY. How great do they look !! Honestly it’s so cool to meet people from around the world, and the USA, and it’s definitely proof that representational art has a universal appeal. Thank you to all the people who stopped to talk and meet - and especially to those who buy my art and follow me on instagram.
New owner of one of my favorite scenes at Letchworth where the founder of the Hudson River School , Thomas Cole, had painted. What people may not realize is that every time I paint this scene I’m trying something new that I had never done before, hoping to discover something new. It was brought to my attention that if you’ve previously bought a painting, you would be eligible to get a discount on future ones. Thank you to all my patrons and to all those who stop to talk art. You’re the reason I do this. Art connects us.
Anna and Angel, with their mom and dad are from California, and Anna ( on the right) became the youngest owner of one of my oil paintings. I’m so honored that at such a young age she is patron of my artwork.
Family from Ukraine who stopped to talk about my larger version (oil on canvas) of Archery Field. Ulyana, (on the left),a professor, has a Ph.D in Management of Arts Department, Lviv, Ukraine. How impressive is that!! Hope I didn’t bore them too much with my art opinions ha. This is why I say “art connects us”.
Chandler is the new owner of this Plein air oil painting done prior to a larger painting of Archery Field, Letchworth St Park, NY.
